The Vinyl Word

The boys were out in full force last Saturday night at Triangle’s gay event, Werk. Drag queens were fierce and showed off their fancy new hairdos, muscle men wore matching wings and Speedos and very little else, and bears were doing what bears do at gay parties. Triangle was filled to the rim, so Werk is going to be a monthly event. The next one is slated for Sept. 20.

Tomorrow, Triangle strays away from their pure house music-only stance and switches the beat to merengue, cumbia, reggaeton, vallenato and salsa for the Noche Latina party with DJs Nick, Cola and P-LaLa. Some people find it strange that a young, beautiful Taiwanese woman knows a lot about Latin music, but P-LaLa has been locked in her basement in Greater Kaohsiung for the past three years studying the beats. She has learned how to put together a hot Latin set by constantly performing at the monthly Noche Latina parties at Brickyard. Tomorrow will be the first one she plays in Taipei.

■ Noche Latina, tomorrow at Triangle from 11pm to 4am, 1, Yuman St, Taipei City (台北市玉門街1號). Admission is NT$300 and comes with a drink.

Nature is beckoning those looking to get out of the city this weekend. In Pinglin right on the banks of the Beishi River, the Green Ecstasy party promises 24 DJs over three days and two nights.

Tonight will be filled with the sounds of techno and house from the likes of Licheal Mambert, A-Dao, Al Burro, Minijay, Yoshi and Vice City. Then, at 2pm tomorrow, the music switches to psychedelic trance with DJs Utopia & Tricho, NaNa, Soniya & Psyfrog, Psyan Liang, PsyCho, Taxi PsyProg and more.

Even though psytrance gets very little play at clubs around Taiwan, parties happen monthly at random campgrounds and open spaces when the weather is nice. Attendance is always big, with most psytrance parties getting between 500 and 1,000 people. This weekend’s event will be one of the biggest of the year.

■ Green Ecstasy party, today from 2pm until Sunday at 4pm at the Beishi River in Pinlin Dist, New Taipei City (新北市坪林區北勢溪河畔). Tickets are NT$1,500 for all three days and can be purchased at the door. Detailed maps with directions can be found by searching for Green Ecstasy (綠色狂喜,音樂露營派對) on Facebook.
