Dance, passion, philosophy, social activism: all four are key to Jones as a man and as a performer. His work excites or enrages, you can't remain disengaged from it, even after you leave the theater. Next week's performances will be the first by his company in Taipei. Hopefully they won't be the last.
The promoter, the Taipei Arts International Association (TAIA), originally had Jones' company as the middle act of a triple bill of dance/theater companies. However, the French group that was supposed to launch the program last month pulled out.
Next month, TAIA will present La Fura dels Baus, a theatrical group from Barcelona, Spain, known for their unusual settings, willingness to cross the lines that separate the audience from the actors on stage and their "urban" themes.
