After extensive research on the highway, director Li also attempts to bring an historical value to his debut feature, documenting the development of the main artery. The remnants of ancient trails built during the Qing Dynasty that are Suhua Highway's predecessor are revisited by the three bikers and scenes are shot in places known only to experienced elderly locals. The gorgeous aerial shots on the highway that cost NT$700,000 a day capture the majestic geography of the region which is gradually being eroded by the ravages of time and manmade destruction.
