To my mind, Zhang is a work in progress and though he has made connections, he has not yet drawn them together. He presents us with a vision that shows us where we live but not who we are.
As a commercial artist, he has succeeded; but if he is to fulfill his dreams, then future works will contain more of his feelings and more deeply probe the metropolitan lifestyle that is his chosen subject matter.
