    LETTER: Wrong country

    Thursday, May 15, 2008, Page 8

A recent article in your newspaper about the ethnic Kalinagos in Dominica contains an error (“Chief calls for marriage law,” May 11, page 7). The header incorrectly locates the story’s origin as the Dominican Republic.

As I am married to possibly the only Dominican (who also happens to be part-Kalinago) in Taiwan, I would like to inform you that the Dominican Republic and Dominica are two very different countries. It is a mistake that is often committed by people who know little about the Caribbean, but I would expect a newspaper to be more accurate. It may seem like a small mistake to you, but Dominicans are fiercely nationalistic and proud of the beautiful “Nature Isle.”
