Turning a blind eye to global news

By Philip Yang 楊永明

International news serves as a mirror. For example, learning how many Sudanese children are dying in the refugee camps in Chad every day because of illness and that more than a quarter of the world population does not have clean drinking water, could make Taiwan-ese more tolerant and understanding. And that may yet imbue Tai-wanese politics with more honesty and a willingness to compromise.

Philip Yang is a professor in the department of political science at National Taiwan University.
