The sales of PlayStation VR headsets and accessories is to begin on Oct. 13 around the world, but Sony began taking pre-orders in Japan in May.

The company started taking pre-orders from Taiwanese through its distributors and will also take pre-orders at upcoming promotional events, it said.

Sony is to hold a marketing campaign at Taipei’s Syntrend electronics shopping mall from Friday to Sunday, where visitors will be able to test the products.

Similar events are planned for Taichung and Kaohsiung next month, the company said.

Starting on Tuesday next week, Sony stores in Taipei and Taichung, as well as the TVGame store in Taipei City Mall and Gamemall in Kaohsiung, are to set up a dedicated area for visitors to test the new products.

One of PlayStation VR’s main rivals, the HTC Vive, which needs to be connected to a “VR ready” computer, is priced at NT$28,288.
