Leofoo Tourism Group (六福旅遊集團), which operates theme parks, movie theaters and hotels in Taiwan, plans to introduce a luxury hotel in Taipei’s Nangang District (南港) in the second half of next year.
The new hotel, with a total of 465 rooms and a variety of restaurants, is to be part of the Courtyard by Marriott brand, under license from US-based Marriott International Inc.
“The hotel’s launch could help ramp up business for the group, helping boost its annual revenue by more than NT$1 billion [US$33.3 million] per year,” Leofoo Tourism said in a statement.
The new hotel is to be part of the build-operate-transfer (BOT) Nangang Station project managed by Ruentex Group (潤泰集團).
The Nangang area has become one of the core commercial areas in Taipei, combining infrastructure such as the Taipei World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall and a high-speed rail station, which might raise demand for accommodation, the statement said.
Leofoo Tourism operates four hotels under three brands nationwide and an apartment hotel in Taipei.
The group said it would start recruiting management for the new hotel from next month, with hundreds of employees expected to be recruited in the near future.
Marriott International, under Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide Inc, operates more than 4,000 hotel rooms worldwide, with Courtyard being one of its most popular brands.
Other than Leofoo Tourism, Cathay Hospitality Management Co (國泰商旅), a subsidiary of Cathay Real Estate Development Co (國泰建設), plans to open another hotel in Taipei under the brand of Courtyard by Marriott in the next few years.
