A majority of Taiwanese recorded investment gains in the past six months while the number of losses dropped to a six-year low, thanks to rallies across global bourses, a survey by JPMorgan Asset Management Taiwan showed yesterday.
Just under 52 percent of local investors made money from trading stocks, mutual funds, options and real estate, the quarterly survey of 1,069 investors aged 20 and older found.
The number marked a three-year high as the world slowly recovers from the global financial crisis and Europe’s debt problems, JPMorgan said.
Just 18.5 percent reported losses from their overall portfolio, the lowest since January 2008, the survey found.
“Despite sporadic pullbacks, developed markets put up strong showings this year on the back of economic fundamental enhancement and easy monetary policies,” JPMorgan Taiwan vice president Alex Chio (邱亮士) said in the report.
The bullish markets may extend into the second half, as long as business activity continues to ramp up, Chio said.

This signals Taiwan’s transformation into the world’s largest Google hardware research and development center outside of the US, validating the nation’s economic policy in the past eight years, she said.
