US firm offers internships

US semiconductor equipment supplier Applied Materials Inc yesterday said it plans to hire 12 interns on a minimum monthly salary of NT$35,000, targeting college students during the two-month summer vacation. The company said it would offer monthly salaries of NT$40,000 and NT$45,000 for those with master’s degrees and doctorates respectively. Last year, Applied Materials hired 11 interns.


Chunghwa offers free security

Chunghwa Telecom Co (中華電信) on Tuesday launched a free mobile security service that is aimed at increasing customer loyalty and brand awareness. The security service, announced in cooperation with Internet security firm Trend Micro Inc, allows users to avoid private data leaks on lost mobile devices by eliminating content on the devices by remote control. It can also automatically block Web sites with adult or violent content.
