Car sales last month dropped 46.7 percent to 21,306 units from a month ago because customers are less willing to purchase cars during Ghost Month, industrial data showed.
Car sales dropped 17.5 percent last month from a year ago, while sales in the first eight months fell 4.5 percent annually to 243,601 units, statistics showed.
Hotai Motor Co (和泰汽車), which distributes Toyota and Lexus models, led the market with a 31 percent share and 6,603 cars distributed last month. The figure was a 53.7 percent drop from a month ago and 25 percent decline from last year.
Ford Lio Ho Motor Co (福特六和), a Taiwanese subsidiary of the US-based Ford Motor Co, sold 1,945 units last month, down 13.8 percent from a month ago.
Yulon Nissan Motor Co (裕隆日產) sold 2,436 cars last month for a 11.4 percent market share, replacing China Motor Corp (中華汽車) as the second-largest car distributor.
China Motor sold 2,091 vehicles last month for a 9.8 percent market share, the data showed.
