CTBC fined over leak

The Financial Supervisory Commission yesterday fined CTBC Bank (中國信託商業銀行) NT$4 million (US$132,800) for lax internal controls. Outsiders were able to obtain information about the bank’s customers via its Web site, the regulator said, adding that it has asked the bank to remedy the situation. The bank is the nation’s largest credit card issuer, but could lose the title after Costco Wholesale Co switched its partnership to Cathay United Bank (國泰世華銀行).


Thai school enters cloud

Thailand’s Rangsit University has moved its administrative and research functions into the cloud using Acer Smart Cloud Builder, Acer Inc (宏碁) said in a statement yesterday. The university expects to enhance efficiency, minimize resources and lower costs, Acer said.


Asustek ends buyback

Asustek Computer Inc (華碩) has completed its share buyback program ahead of schedule. In a statement filed with the Taiwan Stock Exchange on Tuesday, Asustek said it spent a total of NT$2.53 billion on the program, and the average purchasing price of the 10 million shares it bought back from the open market was NT$252.60. Analysts said the buyback of 10 million shares was not enough to take on foreign institutional selling amid lingering concerns over the company’s shipments and bottom line.
