Vibo revenue forecast to grow 20 percent: CEO

By Lisa Wang  /  Staff reporter

Local telecoms operator Vibo Inc (威寶電信) yesterday said it aimed to boost revenue by about 20 percent this year, on growing demand for its data transmission services.

This year, revenues are expected to grow to between NT$8.2 billion (US$276 million) and NT$8.5 billion, from NT$7 billion last year, company chief executive George Chou (周鐘麒) told a media gathering.

“Vibo will see stable growth this year,” Chou said.

The company last year implemented a restructuring program, including a major overhaul of its customer base, retail channel and rate plans. As a result, its number of subscribers is expected to increase by about 15 percent to 1.95 million this year from 1.7 million last year, he said.

The company also plans to expand its number of retail outlets to 400 this year, from 318 last year, he added.

Meanwhile, Vibo yesterday joined the nation’s big three telecoms operators in offering a pre-order list for HTC Corp’s (宏達電) new flagship smartphone, the new HTC One, after the company strengthened partnerships with major handset brands including HTC and Samsung Electronics Co last year.

The new HTC phone, with a 16 gigabyte memory capacity, will be available for free when bundled with a rate plan that carries a monthly fee of NT$1,758, Vibo said.

The firm’s average revenue per user increased to NT$600 last year, from NT$450 in 2011, as subscribers were more wiling to subscribe to higher-priced plans, Chou said.
