Contract notebook and electronics maker Pegatron Corp (和碩) said on Thursday that consolidated revenue last month reached its second-highest level in history at NT$81.39 billion (US$2.81 bilion), amid strong demand for consumer products.
While last month’s figure was marginally down by 0.46 percent from NT$81.77 billion in November, it surged 99.19 percent from NT$40.86 billion a year ago.
That brought its fourth-quarter consolidated revenue to a record NT$233.69 billion, up 22.51 percent from NT$190.74 billion in the previous quarter.
For the whole of last year, revenue totaled NT$755.48 billion, up 58 percent from NT$506 billion in 2011.
Pegatron said the slight fall in revenue last month was better than its expectations.
The better-than-forecast quarterly sales were mainly supported by strong sales of consumer electronics, particularly Apple Inc’s iPad Mini, which increased by a double-digit growth rate last month and offset the decline in sales of PCs and other communication products, Pegatron chief financial officer Charles Lin (林秋炭) said yesterday by telephone.
Lin said the decline in monthly sales of broadband communication products was smaller than expected at less than 5 percent, but sales of notebooks and desktops both dropped by more than 10 percent last quarter, which were worse than the company’s predictions.
For this quarter, Pegatron forecast sales would remain flat due to weak off-season demand, but shipments of non-notebook and other broadband communication products would increase and drive up overall sales.
This year, it expects overall sales to continue to grow from last year.
