The government has preliminarily selected two state-owned plots of land for the construction of low-cost “modern housing” units, with the first batch to be introduced in 2013, the Council for Economic Planning and Development said yesterday.
The two plots of land — measuring about 2,000 ping (6,600m2) each and located in New Taipei City’s (新北市) Tucheng (土城) and Sansia (三峽) districts — belong to the National Property Administration.
The council met with representatives from the National Property Administration, the New Taipei City Government, the Ministry of the Interior, the Bankers Association of the ROC (銀行公會) and the investment trust industry to select lots for the projects.
“All the representatives at the meeting had a positive view of those two plots of land,” CEPD Deputy Minister Hwang Wang-hsiang (黃萬翔) said.
The two plots of land will be developed to offer 20 to 25 ping apartments to a total of 550 families — 310 families in Tucheng and 240 in Sansia, Hwang said.
Both will be near a Taipei mass rapid transit (MRT) station: 500m from Dingpu station for the Tucheng project and 200m from the National Academy for Educational Research station for the Sansia one, he added.
Both MRT stations are not yet in operation, with the Dingpu station scheduled to open in 2013, Hwang said, adding that the council expects the Tucheng project to be introduced at the same time as the station.
Construction for the low-cost modern housing project is expected to cost less than NT$100,000 per ping. The units are expected to sell for about 60 percent of the prevailing market price.
In addition, buyers could take out a loan for up 80 percent of the housing unit’s value, the council said.
The selection of the two plots of land still has to be approved by the Cabinet, Hwang said.
