The state-owned oil refiner CPC Corp, Taiwan (CPC, 台灣中油) yesterday said it would raise prices by NT$0.1 per liter for its gasoline and diesel products to reflect global crude oil prices after they rose on speculation that unresolved Middle East political turmoil could decrease supplies.
In addition, demand for crude oil could increase on the back of a positive outlook for the US economy, CPC said in a -statement posted on its Web site.
Global crude oil prices jumped US$0.95 per barrel to US$118.35 per barrel last week from US$117.40, which allowed CPC to raise gasoline and diesel prices by up to NT$0.2 per liter, the oil refiner said.
Formosa Petrochemical Corp (台塑石化), the nation’s only privately run oil refiner, yesterday also said it would increase gasoline and diesel prices by NT$0.1 per liter, citing concern over reduced oil supply.
The new price tariffs take effect today.
