Local mobile phone operator Vibo Telecom Inc (威寶電信) has jumped on the tablet bandwagon by unveiling its first own-brand tablet, the Vpad, yesterday.
The company has placed orders for 3,000 Vpad units with contract manufacturer Hon Hai Precision Industry Co (鴻海精密), but the latter might not be able to supply all the units on time because of a shortage of panels, Vibo vice president of sales Calvin Hung (洪清風) said.
The 7-inch Vpad runs on the Android 2.2 operating system and sells for as low as NT$8,990 on monthly subscription plans.
Vibo also announced it is carrying tablets from First International Computer Inc (大眾電腦) and Samsung Electronics Co for its users.
Vibo Telecom is an affiliate of Kinpo Group (金仁寶集團), which also owns notebook maker Compal Electronics Inc (仁寶電腦) and handset maker Compal Communications Inc (華寶通訊).
