With panel shipments falling across the board last month, AU Optronics Corp (AUO, 友達光電) yesterday said that preliminary consolidated revenue last month reached NT$35.13 billion (US$1.15 billion), down 16.3 percent from September and 11.3 percent from a year ago, a company statement showed.
Last month’s revenue on a consolidated basis was the lowest since February, when the Hsinchu-based company posted NT$32.67 billion in sales, according to the company’s financial data.
The nation’s No. 2 flat-panel maker after Chimei Innolux Corp (奇美電子) by revenue said that shipments of large-sized panels dropped 3.8 percent from the previous month to nearly 9.15 million units, while those of small and medium-sized panels slid 11.7 percent to 17.76 million units.
The large-sized panels are used in desktop monitors, notebook computers, LCD TVs and other applications, while small to medium-sized panels are used in smartphones and netbooks.
In the first 10 months of the year, consolidated revenue totaled NT$399.68 billion, up 40.7 percent from the same period last year, AUO said.
On Oct. 27, the company said its large-sized panels would likely grow by 3 to 5 percent quarter-on-quarter from the 28.7 million units shipped in the third quarter, but it expected the average selling price to fall further this quarter.
