Job market looking for new graduates

By Ted Yang  /  STAFF REPORTER

As Taiwan’s economy has posted a better-than-expected performance, university and grad school graduates can expect higher wages this year as enterprises are willing to pay more to hire fresh job seekers, an online survey showed yesterday.

The latest 104 Job Bank survey, which polled 621 companies between April 20 and April 29, found that the average starting salary for grad school graduates saw the largest growth with a rise of 4.2 percent from a year earlier to NT$31,813 per month.

University graduates will see an increase of 1.4 percent in their salaries, which average NT$27,652 per month, the report said, adding that electronics companies remain the most generous as they are willing to pay nearly NT$30,000 per month.

“Stronger demand for human resources in the electronics and technology sector has led companies to employ fresh graduates with a higher starting salary,” 104 Job Bank public relations manager Max Fang (方光瑋) said.

The construction and real estate sectors and the manufacturing industry also offer higher salaries for fresh graduates, with the former paying an average of NT$27,963 per month and the latter NT$27,837 per month, the report said.

The agency, however, said that as not all industries have recovered as fast as the electronics and real estate sectors from the economic downturn, fresh graduates must still pay attention to salary information when applying for jobs.
