Chunghwa Telecom Co (中華電信), the nation’s biggest telephone company, said net income last year fell to NT$45.33 billion (US$1.4 billion), or NT$3.90 per share, based on unaudited figures.
The company reported net profit of NT$48.25 billion for 2007.
Revenue rose 0.27 percent to NT$186.8 billion from a year earlier, the company said in a statement yesterday.
Separately, Taiwan Mobile Co (台灣大哥大), the nation’s second-largest telecom operator, yesterday reported a fourth-quarter net profit of NT$3.15 billion, or NT$1.06 in earnings per share. It had reported a net loss of NT$5.11 billion, or NT$1.16 per share, a year earlier.
Taiwan Mobile said it expected a net profit of NT$3.34 billion in the first quarter, down NT$4.19 billion year-on-year.
Revenue is expected to reach NT$16.86 billion in the first quarter, compared with NT$16.94 billion in the fourth quarter.
