Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp (陽明海運) will be opening a subsidiary today in Turkey to expand its container shipping business, the company said yesterday.
Yang Ming Anatolia Shipping Agency is a joint venture between Yang Ming and its Turkish agent, Egekont Container Transport. It was scheduled to begin operations in Istanbul today.
“Turkey is located between [the] East Mediterranean and Black Sea area[s] and is a hub for shipments to and from the Black Sea. Turkey’s economy has been growing steadily in recent years and is expected to develop rapidly in the near future,” Yang Ming said in a press release.
By launching the subsidiary, Yang Ming hopes to integrate neighboring markets, improve its service network in the eastern Mediterranean Sea and Black Sea and boost its global competitiveness, it said.
Yang Ming, the nation’s second-largest container shipping line after Evergreen Marine, has about 100 container ships.
It has subsidiaries in Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, Vietnam, India, Britain, the Netherlands, Italy, Belgium and Liberia.
