Stock futures market index drops 7%

Prices on Taipei’s stock futures market fell yesterday, with TAIEX futures falling by the maximum allowable 7 percent for contracts expiring next month, December and March.

On the first day that shares and futures were allowed to fall by the standard 7 percent after being limited to 3.5 percent for two weeks, TAIEX futures for next month lost 303 points to finish at 4,034, with 88,702 contracts traded.

December futures declined 300 points to end at 3,995, with 434 contracts traded.

March futures fell 297 points to close at 3,956, with 44 contracts traded, while June futures lost 253 points to finish at 3,978, with 42 contracts changing hands.

September futures were down 285 points to close at 3,798, with 44 contracts traded.

Taiwan International Mercantile Exchange reference levels for TAIEX futures trading were set yesterday at 4,337 for next month, 4,295 for December, 4,253 for March, 4,231 for June and 4,083 for September.

Next month’s electronics index (TE) futures fell 12.35 points to close at 164.5, with 3,650 contracts traded, while December TE futures lost 12.25 points to finish at 163.45, with 38 contracts traded.

Next month’s financial index (TF) futures were down 32.6 points to close at 434.8, with 913 contracts changing hands, while December TF futures were down 30.4 points to finish at 432.8, with 13 contracts traded.
