US software developer Adobe Systems Inc unveiled its new generation Adobe Creative Suite 4 products yesterday, rivaling Microsoft's recently released Microsoft Expression design software.
The official Taiwan launch date of Nov. 7 will coincide with that in the US to indicate the importance that Adobe attaches to the Taiwanese market, the company said at a briefing yesterday.
The San Jose, California-based company is expecting double-digit sales growth outside of North America and targets creative customers in broadcasting, advertising agencies, design and photography studios.
Michael Stoddard, Adobe's Asia-Pacific region senior sales manager, said that "even though Microsoft and Adobe both share the same strong developer community, only Adobe has a strong creative community - and creativity is what will drive Adobe's success."
"We integrate video and the Web seamlessly, as well as allow our customers to go from print to Web workflows, back and forth. This is just something Microsoft cannot compete with," Stoddard said.
Customers who buy Creative Suite 3 now will automatically receive a free upgrade to Creative Suite 4. The new version will be priced at NT$90,100 or higher depending on the options.
The new generation includes 13 products and at least six suites, with three main value propositions: rich expressiveness, simplifying workflow and enabling the community.
"These propositions let our customers be as creative, productive and connected as they can possibly be," Stoddard said.

Betting sites have long been used to gauge which way voters might be leaning ahead of the world’s biggest televised live music event. However, bookmakers highlight a huge increase in engagement in recent years — and this year in particular. “We’ve already passed 2023’s total activity and

China yesterday announced anti-dumping duties as high as 74.9 percent on imports of polyoxymethylene (POM) copolymers, a type of engineering plastic, from Taiwan, the US, the EU and Japan. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce’s findings conclude a probe launched in May last year, shortly after the US sharply increased tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, computer chips and other imports. POM copolymers can partially replace metals such as copper and zinc, and have various applications, including in auto parts, electronics and medical equipment, the Chinese ministry has said. In January, it said initial investigations had determined that dumping was taking place, and implemented preliminary
