The Changhua County Government will hold a festival featuring oyster snacks and artifacts made from oyster shells, as well as a pop music concert and a Taiwanese opera performance, at the fishing port of Wangkung from Friday to Sunday, county Commissioner Cho Po-yuan (卓伯源) said yesterday.
Cho said the festival aims to present a new image for Wangkung as it transforms from a traditional fishing port into a hub for tourism, recreation and culture.
Cho said the county government has organized a series of activities to boost interest in the event, including a show by Ming Hwa Yuan Taiwanese Opera Company (明華園) on the opening night.

The government also arranged for two pop concerts to be staged on Saturday and Sunday and these would coincide with a fireworks display, he said.
For couples who get engaged in Wangkung, the government will give them priority in a mass wedding ceremony and present them with wedding gifts such as bicycles and gold rings, Cho said.
Cho also said visitors should try fried oysters, oyster omelets and other snacks. Wangkung is the county’s major oyster-producing region and its oysters are famous for their quality.

Dutch flag carrier KLM is the latest company to cut its schedule, saying on Thursday that it would scrap 80 return flights at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport in the coming month. Global capacity for next month has been reduced by about 3 percentage points, with all
