Favite is bullish on confirmed orders

Favite Inc (晶彩科技), a leading Taiwanese manufacturer of precision optical inspection and measurement machines, yesterday expressed optimism for the year ahead after reporting NT$825.5 million in revenue last year, up just 2 percent from the year before.

"We have orders up to the end of last year amounting to more than NT$1 billion. Thanks to the competitiveness of our automatic optical inspection products used in the array phase of LCD panel production, we expect to control market share of between 60 percent and 70 percent," Favite general manager Herbert Tsai (蔡顯章) said yesterday at an investors' conference, adding that Favite's main competitors are foreign companies.

"Our main advantage is that we are locally based, which reduces the risk of damage in shipping ever-larger LCD panels and equipment, and ensures a faster response time to customer requests. We develop our own technology, which also eliminates licensing costs," he said.

With leading LCD panel producers Chi Mei Optoelectronics (奇美電) and AU Optronics (友達電) making large scale investments in new production factories, Favite expects strong growth this year, and even better growth next year, Tsai said.

Array phase inspection and measuring equipment accounted for approximately 80 percent of Favite's revenues last year, he said.
