South Koreans are the world's No. 1 computer owners and Internet users, with 88 percent of households having a computer and 80 percent going regularly online, according to a survey yesterday.
More than eight out of 10 households in Hong Kong and Taiwan also have computers.
According to the survey, people in New Zealand and Australia rank as the most active Internet users behind South Koreans.
Highest ownership
The survey by market research company Nielsen found that the markets with highest computer ownership were South Korea with 88 percent, Hong Kong with 84 percent, Taiwan with 81 percent, Singapore and the US both with 77 percent and the UK with 75 percent.
The markets in which most people had logged on in the past seven days were South Korea with 80 percent, New Zealand with 66 percent, Australia with 65 percent, the UK with 60 percent and Hong Kong and the US both with 59 percent.

Of all people interviewed in nine markets, teenagers and people in their 20s in South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan were most likely to have logged onto the Internet in the past seven days, researchers said.
The lowest computer ownership and Internet use figures came from India, where 9 percent of households owned a computer and 7 percent had logged on in the past seven days, and Indonesia where 11 percent of households owned a computer and 5 percent had logged on in the past seven days.
