Far EasTone Telecommunications Co (遠傳電信), the nation's second-biggest mobile phone company, plans to offer its 3G subscribers traveling abroad a 50 percent discount on video calls to Taiwan.

The decision came after the members of the Conexus Mobile Alliance agreed to expand services within the telecom group during the annual two-day board meeting in Taipei.

"Conexus is glad to have had this opportunity to hold its board meeting in Taiwan. Our members had many in-depth discussions regarding the rapid development and intense competition in the Asia mobile market in recent years," the alliance said in a statement released on Thursday following the meeting.

Conexus plans to provide more services for prepaid card customers and a roaming service using HSPA technology.

Far EasTone became a member of the Asian Conexus alliance when it was founded in April last year

Its members, which include Japan's biggest mobile operator NTT DoCoMo Inc, have more than 100 million mobile subscribers.
