Singapore Airlines announced yesterday that its regional wing SilkAir will start providing flights between Kaohsiung and Singapore starting May 25 to meet the increasing demand for business travel on the route.
With an Airbus A319 aircraft,SilkAir will fly four times a week from Singapore to Kaohsiung, the carrier said.
The flights will facilitate easy connections for customers from Europe, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India and Indonesia, which are important source markets for inbound tourism to Taiwan, Singapore Airlines said.
For Kaohsiung customers, the new service will offer more choices of direct flights to Singapore or convenient connections to other international cities in the joint Singapore Airlines-SilkAir network, it said.
"This year is significant for us, as this is the 40th anniversary of our presence here," Toh Giam Ming (¨ôÄY¥Á), general manager of Singapore Airlines' Taiwan branch office, told a media gathering yesterday.
"Our business in Taiwan has been strong and is expected to continue flourishing this year," Toh said.
SilkAir is a full-service regional carrier that extends the Singapore Airline Group's reach in Asia by offering flights from Singapore to 26 other popular vacation destinations in the region, including Phuket, Kunming, Langkawi and Danang.
Besides the new service, Toh announced that Singapore Airlines will introduce its new Boeing 777-300ERs, which have the latest new products and services, to serve on the Singapore-Taipei-Los Angles route.
