Most businesses feeling a little gloomy

STAFF WRITER , WITH CNA

The majority of local businesses hold a negative outlook for next year's economic situation, according to the results of a survey released yesterday by Yahoo Taiwan.

The survey, which was conducted by the 104 Job Bank for the portal, showed that 62.5 percent of businesses predict an economic slowdown or recession next year.

To cope with a possible change in the situation, 70 percent of businesses are planning to switch their marketing channels from traditional media to the Internet in the hope of making the most cost-efficient use of their marketing budget.

However, the survey found that 50 percent of businesses that have not tried online marketing have no idea how it operates.

The survey showed that more than 50 percent of the businesses earmark less than NT$1 million per year for marketing, making low-cost, high-efficiency marketing tools their top choice.

A total of 52.65 percent of respondents said they were planning to buy keyword advertisements on search engines.

Another 38 percent believed that such advertisements would allow businesses to assess the effectiveness of advertising more easily.
