This year's Computex Taipei, the world's second--largest information technology fair after CeBIT in Germany, is set to kick off tomorrow at the Taipei World Trade Center.
Local IT heavyweights joining the exposition include Acer Inc, Asustek Computer Inc (華碩電腦), BenQ Corp (明基), Hon Hai Precision Industry Co (鴻海精密) and Gigabyte Technology Co (技嘉), which will push their latest products and technologies.
In one of the expected high-lights of the show, Foxconn International Holdings Ltd (富士康控股), a unit of Taiwan's biggest electronics maker Hon Hai, will reportedly debut its first own-brand graphics card, the PX7900 GTX, at the show.
Asustek, meanwhile, will showcase its first ultra-mobile PC, as well as its first slew of tablet PCs and bright yellow Lamborghini VX1 performance notebook.
Along with liquid-crystal-display televisions, Acer will unveil its much hyped Ferrari 5000 and 1000 series -- dual-core laptops with exclusive carbon-fiber casing -- using an F1 theme.
Big-name companies from 22 countries, such as Intel Corp, Advanced Micro Devices Inc, Microsoft Corp, Texas Instruments Inc, Toshiba Corp and Infineon Technologies AG, have also signed up for the expo.
Other highlights of the show are the 13 seminars called "Compuforum," in which CEOs and high-ranking officials from top international firms will share their experiences and visions for the industry.
Featured themes at this year's exhibition include digital applications, auto electronics components, consumer electronics and multimedia, according to organizer Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA, 外貿協會).
The 26th Computex Taipei will run through Saturday at the Taipei World Trade Center's three exhibition halls as well as at the Taipei International Convention Center.
It will feature 1,312 exhibitors showcasing their wares at more than 2,907 stands, making this year's fair the biggest ever.
The IT sourcing gala is expected to draw more than 150,000 visitors, including more than 33,000 overseas buyers, TAITRA said.
Last year the show featured 1,288 companies and 2,853 stands, which attracted a total of 129,947 visitors, TAITRA said.
