■ Online tax filings top 2 million
A total of 2.06 million taxpayers had filed their income tax returns online as of yesterday, the last day that filing was accepted for this year, Ministry of Finance officials said.
The figure exceeds the target of 2 million set by the ministry and is the highest since online tax filing was launched in the country, the officials said.
Of the 2.06 million cases, 762,861 have been received by the National Tax Administration of Northern Taiwan, 499,936 by the National Tax Administration of Central Taiwan and 396,803 by the National Tax Administration of Southern Taiwan, they said.
The Taipei Tax Administration and Kaohsiung Tax Administration have received 267,942 cases and 133,171 cases respectively the officials added.
■ CAL unveils new cargo route
China Airlines Ltd (CAL, 中華航空) said yesterday it will inaugurate a new Taipei-Osaka cargo service on July 4 with two flights per week.
Following the launch of the new service, CAL will provide direct cargo services to Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya of Japan, the company said in a statement.
The new cargo route will enable China Airlines to provide a more extensive cargo network between Taiwan and Japan, it said.
By July 4, the airline will be providing a total of five cargo flights per week to Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya.
Besides serving cargo routes between Taiwan and Japan, CAL said it will use its extensive long-haul capacity to attract transshipment cargo from Japan to Europe, America and Southeast Asia.

Dutch brewing company Heineken NV on Friday announced an investment of NT$13.5 billion (US$414.62 million) over the next five years in Taiwan. The first multinational brewing company to operate in Taiwan, Heineken made the statement at a ceremony held at its brewery in Pingtung County.
