■ Carlyle to buy into Eastern
Carlyle Group, manager of the largest US buyout fund, will buy controlling stakes in Eastern Multimedia Co (東森媒體科技) and its affiliate Eastern Broadcasting Co (東森電視), an Eastern Multi-media spokesman said. Contracts covering the stake sales were signed on Monday, Eastern Multimedia spokesman Johnny Sand said yesterday. Details won't be announced until after approval by the Investment Commission, he said, adding that the company expects to win government approval for the purchase.
■ Supply growth slows
Money supply growth slowed for a second straight month last month because of weakening expansion in loans and investment. M2, the broadest measure of money supply, rose 6.2 percent from a year ago after gaining 6.5 percent in February, a central bank statement said yesterday. M1A, which tracks net currency in circulation plus checking accounts and passbook deposits, expanded 4.2 percent last month after increasing 6 percent in February, the central bank said.
