Shinkong's main store to stay open later

Customers of another local bank will no longer need to rush to their nearest branch during worktime, as it is planning to have its flagship branch stay open until 10pm to improve its service.

Shinkong Bank (新光銀行) is slated to open its flagship branch at the intersection of Anhe Rd. and Dunhua S. Rd. next month, and the outlet will be open till 10pm.

"We have seen people's demand for longer business hours," Leon Chiang (姜宏亮), manager of Shinkong's planning and marketing department, said in a telephone interview yesterday.

Counter services for depositing and withdrawing money will last until 8pm, while wealth management services and secure services for upscale clients who wish to store their valuables will run for two more hours, Chang said.

If the hours work well, the bank may extend the policy to another 10 outlets in Taipei City in the second half of next year, he said.

However, cost concerns will prevent the bank for applying the policy to all of its 108 branches nationwide anytime soon, Chiang said.

Shinkong is not the first to offer longer business hours to bankgoers. Chinatrust Commercial Bank (中國信託商銀), Cosmos Bank (萬泰銀行) Hsinchu International Bank (新竹商銀) and others all have branches that are open until 7pm, much longer than the conventional 3:30pm closing time.
