More than half of the farmers questioned in a recent survey are satisfied with the agricultural policy adopted by the Council of Agriculture (COA), according to the results of the survey, which were released yesterday.
A total of 52.31 percent of farmers are satisfied with the policy, compared with 26.85 percent who said they are dissatisfied and 20.84 percent who expressed no opinion.
The survey was conducted by the polling center of Shih Hsin University from March 29 to April 1 among 1,084 farmers around Taiwan, with a margin of error of 2.98 percent.
While 58.68 percent of the respondents said they are satisfied with the care provided for farmers by the COA, 28.78 percent are dissatisfied and 12.54 percent had no opinion.
The most satisfactory measure among the farmers is the increase in the allowance for elderly farmers and the offer of scholarships for farmers' children, with 81.46 percent of the respondents expressing approval of the measure.
The second-most satisfactory measure is the subsidies provided to farmers when they leave their land fallow, with 69.19 percent giving a thumbs-up. Measures adopted by the COA to stabilize prices of agricultural products won the approval of 53.78 percent of the respondents.
A total of 64.94 percent of the respondents said they support the CAS certification system for quality agricultural products.
