China Airlines (華航), the nation's largest air carrier, yesterday inaugurated its first nonstop flight from Taipei to Vienna.
The airline will offer three direct flights to the Austrian capital every week, increasing the number of its total flights to Europe to 19 per week, the company said in a statement.
To mark the historic moment, director-general of the Civil Aeronautics Administration Billy Chang (張國政), China Airlines chairman Chiang Yao-chung (江耀宗) and president Philip Wei (魏幸雄), as well as Austrian trade representative in Taiwan Wolfram Moritz, attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony at CKS International Airport.
Rival EVA Airways Corp (長榮) is also scheduled to increase weekly Taipei-Vienna flights via Bangkok between May 18 and June 26 to five flights from three, according to the company.
