Non-electronics industrials continued under pressure at the same time after a considerable pull-back last week, they said.
The TAIEX closed up 35.67 points at 5,807.79, off a low of 5,766.86 and a high of 5,824.14, on turnover of NT$62.92 billion (US$1.86 billion).
Risers led decliners 351 to 309, with 139 stocks unchanged.
The electronics sector was up 1.88 percent.
"The bellwether electronics sector managed a rebound today, but it may be no more than that -- a rebound," Fubon Securities Investment Services (
"Those who hunted for bargains in recent sessions are likely to lock in whatever profits they might have made in the next session or two," Tseng said.

The transport sector was down 2.97 percent after profit-taking among shipping stocks triggered by reports that bulk shipping rates are likely to weaken due to oversupply next year.

Sales in the retail, and food and beverage sectors last month continued to rise, increasing 0.7 percent and 13.6 percent respectively from a year earlier, setting record highs for the month of March, the Ministry of Economic Affairs said yesterday.
