Formosa has a power plant in Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, which started running in 1999. The thermal plant in Zhangzhou was equipped with six generators with a capacity of 600,000 kilowatts each.
Formosa Plastics has been posting pretax profits of over NT$1 billion per month from the power plant due to a severe shortage of electricity in China these days.
A new report last month indicated that Formosa Plastics is seeking to pump in NT$80 billion to establish a power plant with four to six generators in the coal-rich Inner Mongolia. The company officials later denied the report.
