Products made by Taiwan-financed multinational companies overseas or in China will be allowed to be promoted in commercials in Taiwan, Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) officials said yesterday.
Commercial products made by China-based multinational corporations established by Taiwanese companies or individuals and that have obtained an import permit from Taiwanese customs, can be promoted in Taiwanese commercials, including TV, radio and print media, MAC officials said.
Products that comply with these conditions can be advertised in Taiwan with the same brand names and trademarks under which they are marketed overseas, including China.
The approval for such commercials has been given out of administrative expediency until such time as an amendment to the Statute Governing Relations between People from the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area (台灣地區與大陸地區人民關係條例) is passed by the Legislative Yuan, the officials noted.
The policy has been adopted to further facilitate the globalization of multinational or China-based companies established by Tai-wanese companies and to sharpen their international competitiveness, the officials said.
Advertising of other China-originating products, even if they have obtained Taiwanese import permits, will still be banned, they added.
