Microsoft cuts price of its Xbox

GAME ON The top makers of game consoles were set for a summer of increasing competition after they both reduced the price of their devices to below NT$7,000

Taiwan is very active in the manufacture of game consoles for the leading brands. Microsoft's Xbox is made by Wistron Inc (緯創資通), and Nintendo's GameCube by Q-Run Technology Corp (華升電子), a unit of Hon Hai Precision Industry Co (鴻海精密). Sony's PlayStation 2 is made by Hon Hai and Asustek Computer Inc (華碩電腦).

MIC has predicted that Taiwan will ship a total of 18.45 million game consoles -- worth nearly US$2 billion -- this year.
