China Airlines (CAL) and EVA Airways yesterday canceled all their flights to and from Jakarta as the Indonesian capital’s largest international airport remained closed due to volcanic ash from an active volcano between the islands of Java and Sumatra.
Volcanic ash from Anak Krakatau has prompted Indonesia to close eight airports, affecting about 150,000 passengers and 467 flights as of Sunday.
CAL (華航) said it canceled CI761 and CI762 flights between Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport and Soekarno-Hatta International Airport because the latter remained closed. The airline said it would deploy larger aircraft today to help transport passengers affected by the cancellations.

“We will continue to monitor conditions at the airport and weather developments and adjust our flights accordingly,” CAL said. “Travelers are advised to check flight status updates on our official website and app, as well as notifications sent directly to their mobile phones.”
EVA Airways (EVA, 長榮) said it canceled BR237D and BR238D on Sunday, as well as BR237 and BR238 yesterday.
Starlux Airlines did not have any flights to or from Jakarta scheduled on Monday.
EVA and Starlux said their flight services to Indonesia remain subject to change depending on conditions at Jakarta’s airports, and advised passengers to check for the latest updates before traveling.
Taiwan’s Tourism Administration said it has not received casualty reports of Taiwanese tourists from any travel agencies, nor have they received such reports from the Taipei Economic and Trade Office in Jakarta or main travel associations.

The Coast Guard Administration (CGA) yesterday said that it had deployed vessels to “monitor” Chinese ships operating in waters off the east coast.
