Several airlines and the Maritime and Port Bureau yesterday announced widespread service changes as Typhoon Dolphin approaches, with authorities urging travelers to monitor updates and avoid nonessential trips to outlying islands. Starlux Airlines said its JX308/JX309 flight today between Taichung International Airport and Japan’s Shimojishima Airport in Okinawa Prefecture has been canceled. Periods of heavy rain are expected up and down the country this weekend as Typhoon Dolphin approaches northern Taiwan, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said today. The agency issued a sea warning at 2:30pm as the storm continued moving westward through waters north of Taiwan. As of 8am this morning, the typhoon was located 770km east-northeast of Taipei, moving at 12kph, with maximum sustained winds of 38 meters per second, it said.
