Final inspections have been completed for the new MRT Sanying Line, with the section on track to begin operations by the middle of the year, the New Taipei City Department of Rapid Transit Systems said yesterday.
The department and New Taipei Metro Corp are to operate a new 14.29km-long metro line connecting 12 stations across the city’s Tucheng (土城), Sansia (三峽) and Yingge (鶯歌) districts.
The line would provide transfers to the MRT Blue Line and Taiwan Railways Corp services, as well as help to drive development in the Sanying area, the department said.

The inspection committee identified four items that must be improved before operations can begin, six general improvements and five recommendations for further improvements, department Director Lee Cheng-an (李政安) said.
Once the recommendations are implemented, the city could apply to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications for an operating permit, aiming to open the line this summer, the local government said.
The inspection committee was convened by Department of Railways, Highways and Road Safety Director-General Wu Tung-ling (吳東凌), it added.
It was composed of nine domestic experts who conducted comprehensive reviews of the MRT line, including civil engineering, electromechanical systems and operations, it said.
The inspections used document reviews, on-site inspections, simulation exercises and group discussions before convening a concluding meeting, it added.
