Nearly 100 people have sought medical attention following a suspected food poisoning incident at Chin Liu Cuisine (清六食堂), all branches of which have been temporarily shut down, the New Taipei City Department of Health said today.
The department reported 44 suspected food poisoning cases yesterday and 55 additional cases today, bringing the total to 99.
Depending on testing results, the city government would pursue legal action and impose fines as warranted, New Taipei City Mayor Hou You-yi (侯友宜) said today.

As of 10am today, 87 people who ate at Chin Liu Cuisine’s Beixin Road branch had reported food poisoning symptoms, as well as 12 people who ate at the restaurant’s Zhongxing Road branch, the department said.
They experienced symptoms including abdominal pain, diarrhea and fever, it said.
Six people remain in the hospital, 20 are under observation and all others have been sent home, department chief secretary Yang Shih-hao (楊時豪) said.
Testing results typically take two to three weeks, as food leftovers, staff samples and environmental samples are to be analyzed by the department, the Centers for Disease Control and the Food and Drug Administration, the department said.
All three of Chin Liu Cuisine’s branches have been temporarily closed and have not yet applied to reopen, it said.
If tests confirm food poisoning, the case would be referred for investigation under the Act Governing Food Safety and Sanitation (食品安全衛生管理法), it added.
