Multiple storefronts in Taichung’s Beitun District (北屯) set ablaze this morning, drawing alarm due to the fire’s close proximity to a gas station.
The fire was brought under control at about noon and no one was injured, although eight stores were damaged, including a furniture store, the Taichung Fire Bureau said.
At 10:16am, the bureau received a report of a fire at the intersection of Chongde Road and Tianjin Road and immediately dispatched personnel.

It said it deployed a total of 39 fire-and-rescue vehicles and 82 firefighters, using multiple water lines to protect the gas station.
The gas station did not set alight and remains under observation, it added.
Most of the storefronts were built using corrugated iron and contained a large amount of flammable materials, said Lin Wen-jung (林文榮), deputy director of the bureau’s eighth corps.
Fire investigation personnel would conduct an investigation to find the cause of the fire, the bureau added.
