The Penghu County Government yesterday announced the schedule for next summer’s international fireworks festival, revealing a collaboration with classic Japanese anime franchise Dragon Ball Z.
The festival is to start with two preview shows on April 20 and 27, each featuring a 10-minute fireworks display, followed by the official opening on May 4, the county said.
The main festival would run through Aug. 25, one month longer than in previous years, it said.

Shows would be held every Monday and Thursday from May 4 to June 25, and every Tuesday from June 30 to Aug. 25, it said, adding that fireworks and drone light shows are scheduled to begin at 9pm on the night of each show.
The opening and closing events on May 4 and Aug. 25 are to have 12-minute fireworks displays accompanied by 10-minute drone shows, while other dates would offer a 10-minute fireworks and 10-minute drone displays, it said.
The main venue would be at Guanyinting Recreation Area (觀音亭親水遊憩區) in Magong City. The festival would also include one event each on Jibei (吉貝), Wangan (望安) and Cimei (七美) islands, as well as three exclusive shows in Husi (湖西), Baisha (白沙) and Siyu (西嶼) townships, totaling 33 events, the county government said.
The partnership with Dragon Ball Z is a first for Penghu’s fireworks festival, it added.
The county said it plans to launch a series of themed activities, including interactive photo zones, displays of large figurines, themed attractions and exclusive cobranded merchandise, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the festival’s theme while enjoying the shows.

The Kaohsiung Tourism Bureau audited six hotels in an effort to prevent price gouging ahead of Korean band BTS’ concert tour in the city scheduled for Nov. 19, 21 and 22 this year. The military yesterday said it has located the flight data recorder, or black box, of an F-16V jet that disappeared off eastern Taiwan earlier this month, and it would soon deploy a salvage team to try to retrieve it.
