The Tourism Administration today announced 44 featured activities nationwide — including Taipei’s annual New Year’s Eve Party — inviting the public to follow themed travel routes to usher in the new year.
As 2025 draws to a close, cities and counties across Taiwan are rolling out sunset-viewing, New Year’s Eve and dawn-welcoming events.
The agency released a compilation of distinctive New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day events organized by national scenic area administrations, theme parks and local governments.

Northern Taiwan
In the north, the Taipei New Year’s Eve Party — now marking its 30th year — is to be held on Dec. 31 at Taipei City Hall Plaza.
Domestic and international performers are to take turns on stage, culminating in the highly anticipated Taipei 101 fireworks display as the crowd counts down to the new year.
The Taipei Department of Information and Tourism today unveiled its final lineup of performers, led by singer Nick Chou (周湯豪) and South Korean girl band KARA.
It is to be KARA’s first performance in Taiwan in 12 years, the department said, adding that Taipei would be the only stop for the group’s exclusive reunion show.
Chou is also returning to the New Year’s Eve stage after a one-year hiatus and is expected to perform tracks from his new album alongside classic hits.
The final additions join an already star-studded roster that includes Mandopop queen Tanya Chua (蔡健雅), folk-rock band Amazing Show (美秀集團), and singer-songwriters William Wei Li-an (韋禮安, also known as WeiBird) and Bii (畢書盡).
Other confirmed performers include rappers Kao Erh-hsuan (高爾宣, also known as OSN), Aden Wang, girl group Genblue (幻藍小熊), singer-actresses Nana Lee (李千娜), Amber An (安心亞) and local hip-hop trio Nine One One (玖壹壹).
More than 10 musical acts are to perform on the main stage in front of Taipei City Hall starting at 7pm, the department said.
In addition to the main stage, four other stages are to be set up at the Four Four South Village (四四南村), Jingqin No. 1 Park (景勤一號公園), Dinghao Mall (頂好廣場) and Xiangshan Park (象山公園).
These satellite stages are to feature a variety of musical styles, including electronic, light rock, folk, R&B and anime, to cater to diverse audiences as they ring in the new year, the department said.
Central Taiwan
In central Taiwan, the Sun Moon Lake (日月潭) New Year’s Eve concert is to be held on the evening of Dec. 31 at Shuishe Pier (水社碼頭).
Fireworks would be launched simultaneously from Shuishe (水社) and Ita Thao, with reflections on the lake creating a signature visual spectacle.
The following day, visitors can head to Jinlongshan (金龍山) at an elevation of 820m to watch the first sunrise of the new year.
Southern Taiwan
In the south, the “Appreciating Taiping 2025: A Touch of Red Glow” event on Dec. 31 would allow visitors to overlook the Chianan Plain (嘉南平原) and the Taiwan Strait to catch the final sunset of the year.
Visitors can also paint and light prayer lanterns to welcome 2026, while the following day is to feature the Alishan Sunrise Impression Concert centered on classical music.
Eastern Taiwan
Farglory Ocean Park in Hualien County is offering a one-night-only “2025 Ocean Starlight Night” New Year’s Eve program.
Centered on an overnight stay at the park’s aquarium, the event includes a starlight party and guided tours, offering a distinctive way to ring in the new year.
Outlying islands
Lienchiang County (Matsu) is to host its year-end gala and New Year’s Eve concert featuring well-known artists and bands.
On Jan. 1, a sunrise viewing and flag-raising hike is to be held at Bishan (壁山), the highest point in the county, followed by a walk to Tangqi Stadium (塘岐運動場) for the flag-raising ceremony.
A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck off the coast of Yilan County at 8:39pm tonight, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said, with no immediate reports of damage or injuries. The epicenter was 38.7km east-northeast of Yilan County Hall at a focal depth of 98.3km, the CWA’s Seismological Center said. The quake’s maximum intensity, which gauges the actual physical effect of a seismic event, was a level 4 on Taiwan’s 7-tier intensity scale, the center said. That intensity level was recorded in Yilan County’s Nanao Township (南澳), Hsinchu County’s Guansi Township (關西), Nantou County’s Hehuanshan (合歡山) and Hualien County’s Yanliao (鹽寮). Instead of focusing solely on the threat of a full-scale military invasion, the US and its allies must prepare for a potential Chinese “quarantine” of Taiwan enforced through customs inspections, Stanford University Hoover fellow Eyck Freymann said in a Foreign Affairs article published on Wednesday. China could use various “gray zone” tactics in “reconfiguring the regional and ultimately the global economic order without a war,” said Freymann, who is also a nonresident research fellow at the US Naval War College. China might seize control of Taiwan’s links to the outside world by requiring all flights and ships entering or leaving Taiwan
The next minimum wage hike is expected to exceed NT$30,000, President William Lai (賴清德) said yesterday during an award ceremony honoring “model workers,” including migrant workers, at the Presidential Office ahead of Workers’ Day today. Lai said he wished to thank the awardees on behalf of the nation and extend his most sincere respect for their hard work, on which Taiwan’s prosperity has been built. Lai specifically thanked 10 migrant workers selected for the award, saying that although they left their home countries to further their own goals, their efforts have benefited Taiwan as well. The nation’s industrial sector and small businesses lay
Taiwan's first indigenous defense submarine, the SS-711 Hai Kun (海鯤, or Narwhal), departed for its 13th sea trial at 7am today, marking its seventh submerged test, with delivery to the navy scheduled for July. The outing also marked its first sea deployment since President William Lai (賴清德) boarded the submarine for an inspection on March 19, drawing a crowd of military enthusiasts who gathered to show support. The submarine this morning departed port accompanied by CSBC Corp’s Endeavor Manta (奮進魔鬼魚號) uncrewed surface vessel and a navy M109 assault boat. Amid public interest in key milestones such as torpedo-launching operations and overnight submerged trials,
