Investigators in Kaohsiung on Saturday raided a mephedrone manufacturing site, arresting three suspects and seizing about NT$100 million (US$3.2 million) of drugs.
The Kaohsiung City Police Department’s Renwu Precinct yesterday said the factory, in a hilly area of Dashu District (大樹), was producing the Category 3 narcotic known as “meow meow.”
It was allegedly set up by a man surnamed Hsin (辛), with the help of two assistants, surnamed Lee (李) and Yen (顏), the department said.

After receiving a tip-off about the site, a task force was formed, the department said.
The case was then referred to prosecutor Liang Yung-chun (梁詠鈞) of the Ciaotou District Prosecutors Office, who led the investigation, police said.
After several days of collecting evidence and tracking the suspects, police said they mobilized a large team, and carried out a raid and arrested three suspects.
During the raid, police said they seized drug manufacturing equipment, more than 47kg of finished meow meow and about 300kg of unfinished product.
The amount of meow meow seized was enough to make about 400,000 packs of drugs, with an estimated market value of about NT$100 million, the police said.
Renwu Precinct investigation team head Hsieh Hsien-chung (謝憲忠) said the case has been transferred to the Ciaotou District Prosecutors’ Office for potential indictments under the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act (毒品危害防制條例).
