A batch of tilapia fillets from PX Mart in Kaohsiung have been recalled after they were found to contain the prohibited antibiotic enrofloxacin, Kaohsiung’s Department of Health said today.
In October, the department tested a sample of a tilapia fillet expiring on Sept. 16, 2027, from the PX Mart on Jhongjheng Rd in Lujhu District (路竹) and found it contained 0.028ppm of the drug enrofloxacin, which testing standards dictate “must not be detected,” the department said in a press release.

The department has tested 112 seafood products from January to October as a part of its 2025 food sampling plan, it said.
On Thursday last week, personnel who went to inspect the branch found that all 24 packages of the contaminated product that had been delivered to the branch had already been sold, the department said.
PX Mart was notified to immediately remove the contaminated product from shelves and inform customers of the issue, it added.
A total of 4,488 packages of the contaminated product had been distributed to PX Mart branches throughout Kaohsiung, 4,080 of which have been sold and the remaining 408 have been taken off shelves, the department said.
The product came from Yunlin County, and the local health department has been informed to investigate further, it said.
The department reminded customers who have purchased the contaminated product that they can take the product or its receipt to the store they purchased it from to return or exchange it.
If people have disputes regarding the food, they may contact the city government’s consumer service center or call the 1950 consumer service hotline for assistance, it said.

The Central Weather Administration (CWA) said a magnitude 4.9 earthquake that struck off the coast of eastern Taiwan yesterday was an independent event and part of a stress-adjustment process. The earthquake occurred at 4:47pm, with its epicenter at sea about 45.4km south of Yilan County Hall at a depth of 5.9km, the CWA said. The quake's intensity, which gauges the actual effects of a temblor, was highest in several townships in Yilan and neighboring Hualien County, where it measured 4 on Taiwan's seven-tier intensity scale, the CWA said.
