Temperatures are expected to drop across Taiwan early next week as northeasterly winds strengthen, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said today.
The mercury is forecast to drop to lows of 15°C to 17°C in northern and central Taiwan over two days starting on Tuesday, and to 19°C to 20°C in the south as well as in Taitung County in the southeast, the agency said.

Independent meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) said the winds would be the coldest so far this autumn, sending temperatures in low-lying areas north of Miaoli County to about 12°C between Tuesday night and early Wednesday.
The winds are forecast to weaken from Wednesday, after which temperatures would gradually rise again, Wu said.
Meanwhile, wet weather is expected to persist nationwide throughout today due to the combined effects of a tropical depression and northeasterly winds, the CWA said.
An extremely heavy rain advisory has been issued for parts of Keelung and New Taipei City, warning of 24-hour accumulated rainfall exceeding 200mm, or three-hour accumulated rainfall of more than 100mm.
Taipei is under a heavy rain alert, which projects at least 80mm of rain in 24 hours, or 40mm in one hour.
The rain advisories would remain in effect through tonight, the CWA said.
Tropical Storm Fung-wong, which made landfall in Pingtung County's Hengchun Township (恆春) at 7:40pm yesterday, had weakened to a tropical depression, the CWA said.
In the wake of Fung-wong, 95 people in Taiwan were reported injured, and 489 disaster incidents had been reported nationwide as of 8am today, the latest data from the Central Emergency Operation Center showed.

Tropical Storm Fung-Wong would likely strengthen into a typhoon later today as it continues moving westward across the Pacific before heading in Taiwan’s direction next week, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said. As of 8am, Fung-Wong was about 2,190km east-southeast of Cape Oluanpi (鵝鑾鼻), Taiwan’s southernmost point, moving westward at 25kph and possibly accelerating to 31kph, CWA data showed. Almost a quarter of volunteer soldiers who signed up from 2021 to last year have sought early discharge, the Legislative Yuan’s Budget Center said in a report.
