Hualien County authorities this morning again issued an evacuation order for Guangfu Township (光復) residents, as the Mataian River (馬太鞍溪) barrier lake was expected to overflow once more.
The order was issued at about 11:30am as residents were still digging out from severe flooding the day before that left 14 people dead and 124 missing.
As of noon, overflow had not yet occurred.

Rescue personnel have the addresses of all 124 people still missing and would strive to make contact with all of them today, National Fire Agency Director-General Hsiao Huan-chang (蕭煥章) said.
The water level in the barrier lake appeared to have fallen 26m between 3pm and 4pm yesterday, although foggy conditions have made investigation difficult, the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency said today.
Eight Chinese naval vessels and 24 military aircraft were detected crossing the median line of the Taiwan Strait between 6am yesterday and 6am today, the Ministry of National Defense said this morning. The aircraft entered Taiwan’s northern, central, southwestern and eastern air defense identification zones, the ministry said. The New Taipei Metro's Sanyin Line and the eastern extension of the Taipei Metro's Tamsui-Xinyi Line (Red Line) are scheduled to begin operations in June, the National Development Council said today.
